Resources: Is Your Annual Giving Program Functioning At Its Full Potential?

Special Thanks to People’s United Bank & The Spencer Group for presenting at Common Good Vermont’s recent workshop on key indicators of annual giving success on October 11th.

Mike Spencer of The Spencer Group led a well attended day-long workshop, Achieving Sustainability Through Annual Giving, on October 11, 2012 for 35 nonprofit leaders at the Channel 17 CCTV studios, in partnership with Common Good Vermont and People’s United Bank. Spencer covered the science of fundraising and covered the following topics:

Mike Spencer leads workshop attendees to develop their annual giving strategies

  • Where are you on your development life cycle? What does it take to develop an effective giving program? With powerful analytic and planning tools you can see where your donors are spending their time and money and plan your strategy. By measuring individual giving performance you can develop your “funding pyramid”, make informed strategic decisions, set achievable goals, and identify immediate and long-term opportunities.
  • Comparative data compiled for several local organizations in order to establish donor performance benchmarks relevant within Chittenden County.
  •  ”Best practices” of strategies and techniques proven to maximize donor value and loyalty.

The training also included a Luncheon & Funders Panel with Beth Rusnock (National Life Foundation), local philanthropist Brenda Bisbee (Board Member of Vermont Women’s Fund, Vermont Stage Company) and moderator Leslie Blount (VPR director of Corporate Giving).

The afternoon session featured a Hands-On Clinic to apply lessons learned to the organizational plans of the non-profits represented, and The Annual Giving Collaborative: A Way Forward, an introduction to turnkey  approach to sharing an annual fund message throughout the year.
