From our friends at the Vermont Community Foundation:
As of this writing, Vermont seems to have been spared the worst effects of Hurricane Sandy. The news from other parts of the East Coast is not as good. Many areas have been devastated.
If you’re among the many Vermonters who want to reciprocate the generosity we received from others after Irene and are wondering where you can direct support, we can suggest two things.
If you want to support immediate relief, the American Red Cross remains the leader in on-the-ground emergency response. You can donate to Red Cross disaster response here. Vermont Community Foundation fundholders have the option of making a grant recommendation to the Red Cross through their fund.
If you want to support longer-term recovery efforts, we’ve created a webpage to share giving and volunteer opportunities. We’re talking with our colleagues in the hardest-hit areas to determine where your donations will be most effective. As we experienced with Irene, it can often take days or weeks to assess storm damage and recovery needs. We will update this page as new information becomes available.
You can see the page here: www.vtfloodresponse.org/sandy.
Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this storm.
Warmly,
Stuart Comstock-Gay
