Let’s Talk Shop! in Manchester Center Features Leading Community Projects

Library Rendereing

Common Good Vermont’s first regional Let’s Talk Shop! Mixer this year will be at the brand new Manchester Community Library on Thursday, April 24th from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. Not only will you have the opportunity to catch up and mingle with your colleagues, you’ll get a sneak peek at this brand new community learning center, slated to open to the public in September 2014.

Betsy Bleakie, Executive Director of the Library and event co-host will fill us in on how the greater Manchester community stepped up to support this new building and its innovative programs. The Library’s Trustees are looking to create a new “Town Green” for Manchester Center. Come learn about this project’s current status, what final planning efforts are under way and how the Library team envisions its partnership with the community moving forward. Betsy provides a sneak peak:

A 21st-century public library is no longer just a place to house books. With a variety of meeting and work spaces plus access to information, technology, and resources, our new community library has evolved into its role as a cornerstone of our region and a vibrant hub of activity providing a central place for people of all ages, needs, desires, and walks of life to meet as well as to learn.

Also on the agenda for April 24th is an update from the Manchester 2020 Initiative . Chairman Brian Keefe and the four Committee leaders will talk about this volunteer-driven town revitalization effort, undertaken with the help of the Vermont Center for Rural Development in 2013. How is it rolling out? Brian Keefe explains:

We’ve had strong participation from area residents, and great leadership from our four committee chairs. We’re seeing real results, some building on pre-existing efforts, some created from whole cloth, but all working toward making Manchester a more vibrant place to live, work and raise a family.

Join us to learn about the four emergent initiatives: Riverwalk, Biking Destination, Business Incubator and Higher Education and how they fit into the “new” Manchester.
