Waterbury Center, VT —The Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) welcomes 2018 with a new grant opportunity. CLiF is testing a new grant for past partners looking to “Revive Your Literacy Programming.”
This grant provides $500 to support literacy goals. Successful applicants will select from a menu of options and explain in their proposal how they will use grant components to stimulate interest and enthusiasm for literacy activities. Any organization that has been a CLiF partner in the last five years is eligible to apply.
In 2016, CLiF hired Evergreen Evaluation and Consulting to complete research on maintaining momentum after a CLiF grant. While this research focused on the Year of the Book grant, CLiF believes the findings and the resulting best practices for maintaining momentum will influence all CLiF partners.
The research found that author visits, book giveaways, teacher mini grants, and parent seminars had the greatest positive impact during the CLiF grant. Respondents also described a variety of factors, such as the absence of a literacy committee, financial constraints, standards based reporting, and lack of enthusiasm, that impacted their school’s ability to maintain the positive momentum around literacy that started with the CLiF grant. With this “Revive Your Literacy Programming” grant, CLiF hopes to address all these factors and help programs make reading and writing fun for kids and for their program leaders.
CLiF Program Director Meredith Scott says, “This new grant allows CLiF to support all different partners in maintaining their enthusiasm for reading and writing after their CLiF grant is completed. The grant allows partners to design programming that combines the successful components of a CLiF grant – book giveaways, family events, and author visits – into something new that will ignite excitement about reading and writing in the community.”
CLiF is looking for partners who can act quickly. Applications are due January 29, 2018. Applicants will be notified by February 5, 2018 if they received a grant. Grant activities must be completed by May 1, 2018. The grant application is available now at www.clifonline.org under “Literacy Programs.” The deadline to submit this application is January 29, 2018.
