Shannon Martin Dilley with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) office in Vermont alerted us to this list of 1180 Vermont nonprofits who are at risk of losing their tax-exempt status. The National Council on Charitable Statistics reports that 6015 Vermont nonprofits were IRS recognized 501(c)’s in 2008. That means 20% are out of compliance!
