Job Alert: The Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center Seeks Executive Director

Thanks to Mark Naud of the Lake Champlain Sailing Center for sharing this career opportunity.

The Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center Seeks Executive Director

The Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center, Inc. is a non-profit organization located in Burlington, Vermont, with a mission to encourage and celebrate the responsible use and long term stewardship of Lake Champlain by fostering educational
and recreational opportunities for all members of our community. The Community Sailing Center is a sanctioned US SAILING Community Sailing Training Program and has been nationally recognized and awarded for its excellence in programming and
organizational development.

The Community Sailing Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary and operating season in 2014. After a decade of remarkable growth with its past Executive Director, the organization is well positioned with a skilled staff, energetic and strong board, and
supportive community and constituency. The City of Burlington has recently announced significant waterfront development plans which will be the foundation for the Center’s Permanent Home. The Center’s Director will embody the spirit and mission of the
organization, providing key leadership to the community as it invests in its waterfront creating a world class public access facility – the new and permanent home for the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center!

Education. Access. Recreation. The Community Sailing Center delivers its mission through these focus areas. In a 25 week season, the Center hosts nearly 6000 participants, involving 65 Community Partner organizations and provides over 35,000
hours of on-the-water programming. With Youth Camps, Adult Programs, Lake Access, Education and Training, Performance Sailing and Custom Programs, the Center serves as a vital link to the lake for a diverse community.

The Community Sailing Center continues to create new opportunities to serve our growing constituency. Simple sailing lessons have expanded into programs that are intentionally designed to address the ecological heath of the Lake Champlain Basin,
gender-specific training and youth leadership development, and standards-based educational opportunities for creating connections to the natural world outside of the classroom. Everyone who participates in a Community Sailing Center program is taught valuable life lessons that help instill in him or her a sense of ownership in the Lake. Our programs designed for at-risk youth and people with disabilities, enable underserved populations to share ownership of one of Vermont’s greatest natural resource – Lake Champlain — resulting in hope, awe and inspiration.

Position Description
The Community Sailing Center seeks an Executive Director. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, Board of Trustees, consultants, staff, and stakeholders to manage the organization and create a vision and strategy to achieve a
Permanent Home Campaign, which will include a broad-based fundraising plan to raise $5-10 million from individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies to support this initiative, in addition to the growing fee-for-services revenue stream.
